Infusion Set Selection

Cannula/needle depth
(1) 90° infusion sets come in 2-3 different depths to accommodate for various amounts of subcutaneous tissue; angled infusion sets have two different cannula/needle lengths.
(2) Using 90° sets allows for consistency in insertion depth, while both the angle and depth of insertion can be adjusted and may be slightly different with each insertion when using angled sets; trial and error is used to determine the correct depth for each individual when using angled infusion sets.

Tubing length
Most infusion sets are produced with a variety of tubing lengths to fit different body sizes and to accommodate wearing the pump in a variety of places (it is important to ensure that there is enough tubing to easily perform everyday activities such as placement of the pump when using the rest room).

Length of use
(1) Steel needle - change every 24-48 hrs.
(2) Soft cannula - change every 48-72 hrs.

Infusion set packaging options.
Some sets are packaged with the infusion set plus tubing and with extra needles packaged without the tubing; this packaging is designed to allow changing of the steel needle or soft cannula every 2-3 days while using the tubing for up to 6 days. See the manufacturer's instructions for use to determine correct usage.
