Insulin Pumpers Canada began in May 2001, as Insulin Pumpers Nova Scotia, and began as a support group for people who were using insulin pump therapy for themselves or their children and as an information source for people interested in insulin pump therapy. Insulin pumpers Canada is not affiliated with any pump company. They seek to fill the void between what medical professionals can do for insulin dependent diabetics and what people who use insulin pumps require in order to optimize their blood glucose control and quality of life by effectively utilizing the insulin pump.

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is the only global advocate for people with diabetes and their healthcare providers. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International
JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
